About the Riverview Band Program

Under the direction of Robert A. Luster, the Riverview Band Program is an intensive and comprehensive educational experience in the musical, marching and pageantry arts dedicated to transforming students’ and families’ lives. Several award-winning and Superior-rated ensembles call the Band Program home: the Blue Coat Regiment Marching BandConcert BandWind Ensemble, Jazz Band and Indoor Percussion Ensemble. The Band Program also houses the Blue Radiance Color Guard Program which is made up of the Blue Radiance Color Guard for the fall marching season and Blue Radiance Winter Guard for the indoor winter guard season.

Any student enrolled in a Band Program class must participate with the Blue Coat Regiment in the fall marching season during the first semester of school where they compete with both the Florida Marching Band Championships and Florida Federation of Colorguards Circuit (FFCC) Outdoor competitive circuits. Once marching season has ended, our woodwind, brass and percussion students are split between the Concert Band and Wind Ensemble for the remainder of the school year during the winter and spring concert seasons. Students also have the option to join the Jazz Band, and audition for our competitive indoor ensembles the Blue Radiance Winter Guard and Indoor Percussion Ensemble, both of which compete as members of the FFCC.

Program Mission

The mission of the Riverview Band Program is to inspire all students, families and spectators to better themselves and their community through the musical, marching and pageantry arts; outstanding citizenship and high academic achievements.

We strive for our students to set goals for themselves—and then formulate a plan to achieve them.

We strive for our students to create, sustain and appreciate a culture of togetherness—to value each other because of their differences and their lived experiences.

We strive for our students to learn how to lead—and how to follow; they are the next generation of leaders and must be informed, passionate and dedicated.

We strive for our students to be accountable for their actions, disciplined in their lives and humble enough to ask for help—and to demand the same attitude from their peers.

Above all else, we strive for our students to be upstanding members of society—today and always.

Program Motto

“To lead is to serve.” – Shar McBee, 2002

The Riverview Band Program believes in servant leadership where all students, Program Staff, Booster Board members, and family volunteers show leadership skills through exemplary volunteerism and seeking to serve one another towards a common goal—providing a positive, long-lasting educational experience for all involved.
