2021 Marching Band Begins Preparations for Fall Season

With the end of the 2021 indoor Florida Federation of Colorguards Circuit season, the Band Program turns its attention to making preparations and laying the groundwork for its 2021 fall marching season. The Blue Coat Regiment Marching Band will perform what was to be its 2020 program “Look Up” this season, “With the pandemic continuing on into our 2020 season we made the decision to forgo our competitive show last year in favor of something that was still a challenge for the students and allow them to grow, but also gave us the flexibility we needed as we dealt with the changes that arose from doing marching band in the middle of all that was going on,” said Director John Davis.

Mr. Davis continued, “It is our hope that the 2021 marching season brings us more performance opportunities for the Blue Coats—at football games home and away and at Florida Marching Band Championships regional competitions, including our own regional, The March.” The Band Program will continue to take the best health and safety practices as required by the school district and recommended by the CDC and other public health experts; as of now this includes physical distancing and requiring face masks for students at all times except while actively playing a wind instrument or eating and drinking while away from others.

The Blue Coat Regiment is holding auditions for students who are interested in joining the Blue Radiance Color Guard or the percussion section.

Students wanting to be members of the color guard will have auditions on April 20 and 22, 5–7:30pm; please register here to attend and receive further information. Students seeking to join the percussion section—either drumline or front ensemble—will have auditions on May 5, 10 and 12, 5–7pm; anyone interested can contact Band Program Manager Cameron Solomon for further information.

Lastly, all students who will be part of the marching band, including all woodwinds, brass, color guard and percussion, should make plans to be at the Blue Coat Regiment’s first rehearsals on May 20, 25 and 27, 4:30–7:30pm. Questions about marching band should be directed to Mr. Solomon.
