Color Guard Captains Round out Circuit Championships with a Duet—and Another Medal

The Band Program’s 2022 trip to Daytona Beach for the Florida Federation of Colorguards Circuit Championships was already historic after the Blue Radiance Winter Guard won gold and the Indoor Percussion Ensemble won bronze, but there was still more bling to bring home.

Senior color guard captains Alexis Dunk and Haddie Schell were competitors in the circuit’s special Solo & Duet Championships. Held annually at Circuit Championships, this event provides students the opportunity to showcase their own talents with solos or duets focused on dance, flag, rifle, sabre or all of the above! Alexis and Haddie entered as a duet that featured dance, rifle and sabre—their show, limited to just two minutes, featured the song "Today Is Gonna Be a Great Day,” the hit theme song from Phineas and Ferb and was written and choreographed entirely by them.

In an almost too-perfect way, the girls rounded out the Band Program’s medals for the weekend and completed the trifecta, adding a silver to the program’s gold and bronze.

We could not be more proud of Alexis and Haddie—the two of them embody the tradition of excellence that Riverview is known for and we will miss them dearly when they graduate next month!
