Matthew Butler, Percussion Instructor

Although not a graduate of Riverview High School, Matthew is still an alum of the Band Program—as a student at Chamberlain High School, he was a member of the inaugural 2019 Indoor Percussion Ensemble that earned bronze at the Florida Federation of Colorguards Circuit Championships in the McCormick’s Division of Scholastic Marching Class AA.

As an alum of both Riverview and Chamberlain, Matthew works with each percussion program: full-time with Chamberlain in the fall for marching season, and part-time with Riverview in the fall and full-time for the indoor winter season. Since its inception, the Indoor Percussion Ensemble has combined students from multiple schools in Hillsborough County and Matthew represents the best of community that the marching arts has to offer.

At both schools Matthew works across the entirety of the percussion program, assisting students of all skill levels in perfecting their skills and raising the bar of achievement as musicians. Matthew was part of the staff who helped the Indoor Percussion Ensemble earn its third medal at Circuit Championships when the team took home the bronze in the 2023 McCormick’s Division of Scholastic Marching Class AA.

Matthew is currently pursuing his bachelor’s in music education and hopes to be an impactful and transformative lifelong educator.
