Blue Radiance Color Guard Makes their 2016 Debut

This past Saturday the 17-girl team took the floor at Gaither High School for the Florida Federation of Colorguards Circuit Premiere competition. The 2016 season marks the first time in the Color Guard Program’s history that the team is competing on the national level: in 2015 the team was promoted by the FFCC from Class AA to Class A.

At the awards ceremony Captains Jayla Lewis and Leah Smith were presented with an award recognizing the team for their promotion last year. The team ended the night placing 8th in their class and their Director, Mr. Rios, had this to say, “We knew coming into A Class that the competition would be a lot tougher - there is so much more nuance and little things the judges begin to look for. The team is young, a third of the girls have never marched indoor before and half of them only have one year under their belts. To be competing at such a high caliber isn’t easy, but I know it’s definitely something we can handle. I’ve already started talking to Shannon and Michael about how to tweak the show and the girls are ready to get back to work come Monday.”

The team performs next at the FFCC Regional at Plant City High School on Saturday, February 6.
