Hillsborough County Schools Closed for Two Weeks, Remainder of FFCC Season Cancelled
Today the Florida Department of Education announced a two-week closure of all schools in the state due to the COVID-19 situation. Hillsborough County was previously scheduled to be on spring break March 16–20, but this will extend the closure until March 27. The current plan is for students to return to school on March 30. The school district also released guidelines and requirements around spring break travel and steps that need to be taken upon a student’s return. Additionally, the following information was provided.
- All Hillsborough County Public Schools will be closed, including traditional and charter, for the next two weeks;
- ALL extracurricular activities will be cancelled during this timeframe;
- During the week of March 23rd, all students will have access to instructional activities through our eLearning Contingency Plan to ensure instructional momentum;
- Over the next two weeks, all schools will receive a deep cleaning to ensure a safe environment.
In addition, the state will be delaying the start of all FSA and EOC testing by at least two weeks. Students and families should check the school district coronavirus website for the most up-to-date information.
Further, the Florida Federation of Colorguards Circuit announced yesterday the difficult but necessary decision to cancel the rest of the 2020 indoor season, including Championships at the end of the month. This decision means that last week’s performances, which featured all four of the Band Program’s indoor ensembles, were the last of the season for our students.
We urge everybody to continue to stay informed about COVID-19 and listen to state and local officials, as well as public health guidance from the CDC and other science-based sources.
