2016 Concert Music Performance Assessment

Yesterday, Thursday, March 11, the Riverview Wind Ensemble continued the longstanding tradition of excellence at Riverview High School as they took the stage at Strawberry Crest for the annual Florida Bandmasters Association District 7 Concert Music Performance Assessment and earned a straight Superior rating.

For this year’s program the Wind Ensemble performed The Washington Post by Sousa/Brion, Shenandoah by Ticheli and Chanteys by Sheldon.

The Wind Ensemble is the Band Program’s advanced concert ensemble and is made up of the Program’s top instrumentalists regardless of their grade level.

This year’s Concert MPA spanned three days and saw 39 ensembles from Hillsborough County, and a visitor from Pinellas County, perform for adjudicators for a rating ranging between Fair and Superior.

Of those 39 ensembles, 17 were given the highest possible rating of a straight Superior, meaning they earned a Superior from all 3 adjudicators who evaluate the bands on stage, as well as the adjudicator in the sight-reading room.

“I’ve said this a lot this year, but to say that I am proud is a total and complete understatement,” said Director Mr. B. He continued on, “These students have worked very hard this entire school year, beginning all the way back in June with our first summer rehearsals up until this point. I could tell by the way they walked on stage that they were ready.”
