Blue Radiance Makes an 11-Point Improvement
This past weekend the girls of our Blue Radiance Color Guard competed in the Florida Federation of Colorguards Circuit Regional at Freedom High School in Orlando and went up against 12 other teams in the Scholastic A Class.
The team performed with two less members than normal due to pre-existing conflicts with our competition schedule and the regional being at the beginning of spring break, but that didn’t hold the remaining 15 girls back! Of the 12 teams the Lady Sharks took home 4th place with a score of 73.59, an improvement of 11 points since their last performance at the Showcase of Champions, the team’s home show.
“The circuit expects teams to grow and improve an average of two points a week during the season,” explained Mr. Rios, Color Guard Director. “Since the girls haven’t performed for four weeks we were expected their score to go up by about eight points, but an 11 point jump was completely unexpected. I think it shows just how truly dedicated this young team is and that the Sharks are out for blood! Big things are in store for them as we head into the WGI Southeastern Championship in just one week.”
In addition to their overall placement the team also earned 2nd in the Individual Movement caption and 3rd in one of the General Effect captions.
The team has two performances left for the 2016 season: the Winter Guard International Southeastern Championship at UCF March 19-20 and the FFCC Championships at Daytona Beach April 2-3.
