Riverview Earns Their 6th Consecutive Superior at Marching MPA

The tradition of excellence continues! On Saturday, November 7 the Blue Coat Regiment received a superior rating at the Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA) District 7 Marching Music Performance Assessment (MPA) - in all captions! The captions included marching and maneuvering, general effect, music (which is rated by two separate adjudicators), color guard and percussion. This marks the sixth consecutive year that the marching band at Riverview High School has earned a superior rating, with all but one year being straight superiors.

To add to the energy of the day this also marked the first time the Riverview Band Program has hosted this prestigious event. Mr. Miller, Assistant Marching Band Director and the Band Program’s Show Coordinator had this to say, “It was definitely a big undertaking hosting all 27 of Hillsborough County’s high school marching bands plus the USF HOT Band, but our staff and parents proved it would be a walk in the park after we successfully pulled off the Tampa Bay Fall Music Games back in October.”

The Program Administrative Team, which includes Travis, Joel Nunez, Cameron Solomon, Michelle Bradshaw and Mr. Murrell; Booster Board; Director of Instrumental Music Trevor Butts; and other key volunteers arrived at the school at 7am on Saturday to get things under way.

“I cannot express how thankful I am to our volunteers for helping make this day such a success. Our Assistant Principal for Administration Mr. Massena was invaluable and stayed with us until the very end, which was 1:30 Sunday morning, cleaning up garbage and locking up gates and buildings. The service of all of our volunteers and families who donated food and other items for our usage is incredibly humbling and inspiring,” Mr. Miller continued.

Mr. B had this to say, “There are fewer things more exciting and thrilling than having your band make straight superiors at Marching MPA, let alone during your very first year of teaching. I could not be more proud of the kids and all of their successes so far. Way to go guys!”

The Blue Coat Regiment has one final performance for the 2015 marching season; the band will take the field for the Florida Marching Band Coalition State Championships at Gaither High School on Saturday, November 21. Click here for more information.

The Riverview Band Program will host one more event for the 2015-2016 school year: the Blue Radiance Showcase of Champions, a sanctioned Florida Federation of Colorguards Circuit regional competition, on Saturday, February 13.
