Winter Guard Earns Gold at Home, Percussion Improves Score by Four Points

On Saturday the Riverview Band Program hosted its eight annual Florida Federation of Colorguards Circuit regional, the Showcase of Champions in the Ron Wardlow Gym. This year’s event was comprised of nearly 60 color guard and percussion teams from all classes ranging from Cadet Novice through World Class. Two of these teams were Riverview’s very own Blue Radiance Winter Guard and Indoor Percussion Ensemble.

The winter guard performed first, in the middle of the Scholastic Class AAA against seven other teams. Continuing to build off their early success at Premiere in January, the team has worked hard every week and pushed through multiple changes to the show, including some due to performer injuries. Despite these challenges the team was able to continue to rally and bring home the gold—even though it meant just taking the trophy from the gym to the band room. With a score of 70.34 the team bested second place Plant High School by nearly six and a half points, and marked their second gold for the season.

Taking the floor nearly five hours later, the Indoor Percussion Ensemble presented three movements of their show, having learned an entire movement in just one week. Again, the Riverview Band Program is one of resiliency and hard work, so this did not prevent the team from having another great performance. Earning a score of 70.41 the team also repeated their placement from last week, earning silver.

We want to congratulate both of our teams on their stellar home show performances and thank our staff, Booster Board and family volunteers who all made the 2022 Riverview Showcase of Champions a success!
